Neurotech Reports Announces Recipients of Gold Electrode Awards

Neurotech Reports, the publisher of this newsletter, announced the recipients of the 2012 Gold Electrode Awards. The awards, in five categories, were presented October 22, 2012 at the Neurotech Leaders Forum in San Francisco, CA.

The award for Best New Product was presented to ImThera Medical Inc. for its aura6000 hypoglossal nerve stimulation system. Though there are several new neurostimulation devices competing in the market for treating obstructive sleep apnea, ImThera’s aura6000 was selected because of its ability to deliver targeted hypoglossal nerve stimulation to achieve optimal muscle stimulation.

Neuros Medical Inc. won the award for Most Promising Startup. “Neuros represents a company that has created a strong focused market, and is executing the development of their technology in a sound and effective manner,” said James Cavuoto, editor and publisher of Neurotech Reports. “Neuros holds strong promise for patients suffering from chronic amputation pain, as well as other potential applications. They are well deserving of this award and recognition.”

The award for Neurotechnology Researcher of the Year was given to Susan Harkema of the University of Louisville and the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center for her work on functional recovery using spinal cord stimulation and focused rehabilitation training. Battelle Memorial Institute received the award for Most Useful Nonprofit Organization. Finally, the award for Most Valuable Financial Professional was presented to Geoff Thrope of NDI Medical.
